BULLETIN County Attorney Bruce Allen told the Ennis Daily News early this afternoon that later this afternoon a jury is to be im paneled in 40th Dist. Court to hear pleas of guilty from con victed slayer Oscar O. Kernohan Jr. in two additional cases, fol lowing his having been given 99 years for the death of his step son. “The state will recommend that he be given 99 years in each of these, also—one concern ing the slaying of a hitch-hiker, the other, in the death of his wife,” said Mr. Allen, “and it is hoped that they will be made accumulative.” WAXAHACHIE (AP)—A jury Wednesday morning found a 33- year-old army deserter guilty of murder and set his sentence at 99 years in prison. He is Oscar A. Kernohan Jr., who had admitted killing his small stepson, wife and a hitch hiker. The jury found Kernohan sane at the time of the slaying and sane now. Kernahan had pleaded inno cent by reason of insanity and the defense presented testimony that he was mentally ill. The jury deliberated seven hours Tuesday night without reaching a verdict. It resumed deliberations at 8:30 Wednesday morning and returned a verdict about half an hour later. Judge A. R. Stout was the pre siding judge. Representing the State were Ellis County Attorney Bruce Allen and Reeves County District Attorney R. B. McGowen Jr. and McGee Parramore, assistant to Mr. Allen. Defense attorneys were Billy Colvin of Ennis and Milton Hartsfield county judge.
