He was one who tried to build up rather than teardown. Captain Smith was easily Butts county’s most public-spirited citizen.There is somethin# tragic in the death of this noble man. He died before he saw the dream of his life come true. The harn ss-1 in# of the Ocmulgee’s turbulent j waters had its inception in his i brain. The building of more than j one railroad throu#h Butts county was due largely to his tireless zeal. He was a dreamer who worked heroically to bring his! dreams to pass. ICaptain Smith died too soon for Butts county's good.
