DEATH OF F. M. CAMPBELLI Circuit Court Clerk and a Useful and Benevolent Citizen Gone to His Reward, oooooooooooooooooocoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooLast Thursday evening the 5 15th inat.,. 11:40 o’c’eck, Mr. ’ Francis M. Campbell passed ’ away, turfounded by al1 the members of the family, after * about two weeks of intense suf-' fering The immediate cause of his death was blood poison re suiting from hemorrhoids.Francis M. Campbell, the ’ fourth child of George P. and Lucy Martin Campbell, was | born December 31, 1836, His paternal grand father, Nathaniel Campbell, a native of Virginia and of Scotch decent, came to Kentucky in 1812. settling near Shelbyville. To 1819 he came to this county and died three years later. At hi* death. George P Campbell, father of Francis M., heinfe the oldest of a family of eight childrenf assumed the sup port of his mother and the family, following the vocation of farming.Francis M Campbell received a good English education and at the age of twenty began teaching school in this-county and continued teaching thirteen years.February 18, 1865, he married Miss Fannie Campbell and to that union were born ten children, of whom seven survive; Arthur B., Idella, Lula B., Myr-1 the town has lost one of its besl ! residents, the county an honorable citizen aud officeholder, the church a faithful member, and his children a kind, indulgent parent.The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church, Sab bath at 11 o’clock, Kev. W, H. Wii iams, bis pastor, p-eached the sermon, his subject being “The Lord God omnipo ent reigneth. ” Rev. R. L. Purdotu made a few appropriate remarks reminiscent of Mr. Campbell’s life as he hod known him. The remains were interred in Cemetery Hill.THK BAU TARES~ACTloS,Hon. John W. Campbell, Clerk of“the Washington Circuit Court, died Thursday after a short illness: and on mot,iou it was resolved that a meeting of the Springfield Bar and officers of the Court be held for the purpose of paying tribute to the memory of our deceased friend.Hon. 1. H. Thurman, Judge of the Washington Circuit: Court, was elected Chairman of the meeting, and Robert Noe, Deputy Clerk of the Court, was elected Secretary.On motion resolved that a Committee on Resolutions l»e appointed by t he Chairman.Tti^^ hairman* appointed as saidFRANCIS M.tie, Theodore, Bessie and Pearl. Robert died about four years ago. The other two died in infancy, Death deprived Mr. Campbell of his wife and the children of their mother fifteen years ago and he has since kept the family together and been a kind, generous and icdulgent parent, witholding nothing within his ability and power to gratify and give pleasure to his children ' « «.Early in youth or in 1854 Mr. Campbell, united with the Beech Grove Baptist church and his life was one of-“Charity for all and malace toward none” loying his fellowmen with the open-hearted, open-handed generosity of his nature. It has aften been .said cf bim that he 'was gener-! ous to a fault, bat he had a keen I in sight, and understanding of J human nature that discriminated I between the worthy needy and I the impostor and f-eldom was he the victim of the dishonest reci-j pient of his benefactions.In 1884 Mr. Campbell was -elected sheriff of this county by , the Democratic party, to which I political belief he always sub {scribed, being at all limes a 1 loyal partisan upholding the I tenets of that party as a worthy i S andard bearer for his county and Stale He was elec td to the oftic • for the second time and served the term out. In 1892 Mr. Campbell was elected to the cfflce of Circuit Court Cbrk and again in 1897 was elected to tho same oftic.* without opposition. He was com nated acd elected again us clerk in 1903 and was consequently serving his ihird term at the time of his death.Mr Campbell was a director in the First Rational Bank, a director in the Washington County Fair Association and identified in various other ways with public enterprises of the tjwn and county. M. lt;ampbell, cler| of the Washington Circuit Court, which olfice he has held continuously since 1HH2, therefore:Resolved, That while we submit, as we hojtfv with becoming reverence, to the decree of the Great Judge of all. living and dead, by which he has removed from our midst forever our friend and worthy fellow-citizen. F. M. Campliell. by summoning him'to appear at his His Tribunal, IwHoYe which we must all. sooner or later, lie called upon to answer. We can only deplore that this Court has lost a faithful, honest and upright officer, and the community at. large a worthy Christian citizen, and his family a kind and devoid father. ‘To his family we offer our tenderest sympathy in this dark hour of their deepest affliction, and nay to them that we appreciated his high character as a worthy citizen, a devoted parent, and an upright Christian man, w'hAse example in life was worthy qf emulation.Resolved, That the sludge of the Washington i ’ircuit Court be requested to allow the minutes of this meeting to be spread at large upon’ the records of his court, and that the Court, out of respect to the memory of our deceased ftiend and its_officer, be adjourned until court in couqse.Resolved.
