MAPLE GROVE. Written for the Republican. Marie Grove, Iowa, March 20, 1900,— W. L. Rossing was down from Bode, May Cook visited with friends’ in Gilmore last week. Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Jensen were callers at Bode Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. Phieger will return from Pennyslvania this week. B. Sarinac was out from Rutland Saturday, Cora Bair closed her school Friday last, Dorthy Show gave a party to several of her little friends Thursday. Prof. Messer visited our school last Tuesday, _ MAPLE GROVE NO. 2, Miss Myrtle Meanooh closed her school in South Maple Grove Friday, March 16, and will leave for her home for Anallissa the middle of this week. Miss Pauline Rollins is visiting in Humboldt this week, R. C. Bair was a caller Thursday. _ Rev. Josephson, the new minister from Forest City, preached in the M. ‘4, church last Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cregg visited. Sunday at the Thompson home. G. BR. Cohoon was out from townn Tuesday. Mr. Shove, of Arnold, was a business caller the first of the week. The North and West Maple Grove: schools closed last, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Besette visited Sunday at the Cran home. A party of peddlers, consisting of, men and women were calling on people to these parte the first of last wear trying to sell their wares. The program and basket spatal given by Miss Laura Thompson at the Union school house was a decided success, CORINTH, Written for the Republican, Coninry, March 21, 1900,—Frank Stanton is quite sick. C. @. Lane, who has been ailing for some time, is not gaining as fast as he hoped to. Grandpa Hulsizer keeps very poorly. Two of our young men have gone to Minnesota for the summer. James Learmont well last week, and I ver Moen goes today. A ‘pleasant little party was ‘given Iver Moens(by his friends) last Friday evening. Jake Liest has been doing some car penter work for H. L. Barth. Mrs. McAninoh returned from West Liberty today. Her mother, whom she was summoned to see, died ‘the day, after her arrival. Miss. Mamie Crinkshank closed her school last Friday, and will teach the same school next term. She is now visiting to Humboldt , T. C. Mason has engaged a Mr. Van dermark from New York, to work for him the coming season. Mrs.’ Joe’ Berkhimer entertained a number of friends last Monday ayen ag in honor of her husband's birth day. They will move to Grove town ship soon, where they have purchased a home. The Berkhimer, Sr., will move on, the old home farm. The board of directors ‘should take at least a week'a vacation from their farms, and other labor, to fully dis ones and “jangle” over every question, motion or bill ‘which comes’ or desent come.’ One day is not sufficient. A special, meeting has been called for next Saturday, to begin at 9:00a. m. Picnic dinner ,no doubt, and we sup pose they will go to the‘cyclone cave to eat it. They also think of purchas ing several gir ships to transport the youngsters back and forth, who live from the public roads. Mrs. Babbitt has moved into the Raymond house, now owned by Abel Aldrich, *. Axel Johnson who has been spend ing the winter here with relatives, returned to fairmont, Minn., Tuesday. He will work at his trade there. There was a very pleasent surprise party at Carl Hibbard’s last Friday night. All present enjoyed them selves hugely. Mr. Plantz, of Humboldt, ee corn for ‘I’, Janison, a Bartley the coming summer, Miss Edith Casey will teach the school In district number one, this spring. Lawrence Essly is working for Carl Hibbard. The new lumber office and shed is completed. Now we are waiting for the new depot, ane on No. 2, Miss Netlie Case, spent Wednesday with Miss Lillian Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Thorne visited at Krauchek’a Sunday, Miss Minnie Kraoceck returned Sun day from a few days visitin Humboldt. Benj. Jayniss and his sister, Mrs. Casey, went to Humboldt Monday evening to see their mousins, George Landers and George Root, of the 1st. Town Regiment Band, and attend the (und concert. Ole McMillian was in our neighbor hood Sunday. Bert Kurcheck was home Sunday, Mrs. Wm. Casey is ill. A number of their friends gave Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hibbard a pleasant surprise party Friday evening. it was a left handed party. Each person's right hand was tied up in a handker chief and they were requested to register with the left hand. Next a number of advertisments were hung around the room and the company guessed on what each picture adver tised. Prizes were given to the, one who guessed the most correctly, and to the ones who guessed the fewest. Mrs. Dan Hibbard received the prize for having the largest number correct. After the prizes were given, ice cream and cake were served, which was eaten with the left hand. Mrs. Babbitt moved onto the Ray mond place Thursday, Join Nebrow moved onto Mrs. Tunkison's farm Thursday. Miss Rose Nelson, visited Miss Eva Rabbit Monday. .
