Monday evening last Frank Gardner who was employed as brakeman on the P E railroad was killed in a fight in the Bucktail House at Kane, by a teamster named Pete Braunk. A Mirror representative visited the scene of the murder on Tuesday and elicited the following facts. Frank Gardner and Ed Dalrymple two brakemen, who are well-known fighting characters entered the Bucktail House Monday evening and after refusing to pay for drinks which they ordered Ed Dalrymple without any provocation struck a man who is a cripple selling him to the floor. A general fight then ensued in which Dalrymple received a terrible whipping at the hands of Pete Braunk who is a powerful man. Gardner perceiving that his friend was getting the worst of the fight attempted to assist him by striking Braunk whereupon Brunk retaliated by dealing his assailant a terrible blow in the face breaking his nose and jaw and knock ing him across the room thus killing him. Still thirsting for gore Braunk attacked Dalrymple again whom he said he would kill. After a desperate struggle friends rescued Dalrymple (who was now covered with blood) from his would-be murderer On Tuesday a jury was empannelled and an inquest held over Gardners remains.A verdict was rendered in accordance with the above facts. Pete Braunk had left town and has not yet been arrested. He was en loyed by Dick Looker proprietor of the 3ucktail house, and was considered an in nefensive man. Gardner has a wife and two children who reside at Erie. [Braunk was captured Wednesday at Smethport and lodged in jail to await trial for murder.—Ed.]
