HUBBARD NEWS, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21, 196 PAGE 9 contests to end at a 138 mark. Lack of accuracy from the field and the foul line kept the girls record from being better. But with five of the first seven players returning coach Bert Gallagher feels he has the nucleus for an even better season next year. The Lady Eagles have never failed to make it to the sectional finals in tourney play under Gallaghers’ direction, but this past season was the first that the girls have not won a sectional title and entered district play. “We won't want that to happen again next year,” stated Gallagher. “We just don’t want to win the district, we want to start making the trip south,” stated Gallagher. The “Lady Eagles ‘“ have an outstanding 52-19 win loss record over the past three years, including two sectional titles, one district, one regional championship and a state semi-final berth as well. Gallaghers’ varsity teams have won 72 and lost 42 games in his five years as head coach and his jayrees went 15-2, six years ago, giving the coach an 87-44 record overall. “We'll miss the leader ship and play of Stacie Gontaruk and Lisa Abrutz,”’ said Gallagher, ‘‘Stacie was chosen to play in the prestigious Mahoning Valley Conference All Star game, keeping up the proud tradition of having at least one of our girls chosen to play in the game.” Three juniors will be returning to next year’s club and Gallagher sees high expectations, ‘‘The Hendrix twins (Cara and Carla) and Jenny Currie along with sophomores Amy Madeline and Missy Balash give the team talent and fine experience.” Other sophomores who saw playing time last year include, Tina Choppa, Lisa Madeline, Karen Phillips, and Karen Sharisky. Junior Varsity players who also saw action were Amy Fox and Jodi Gilligan. Gallagher knows that a lot next year will depend on the way the girls practice in the off season, “We will have open gyms for all the girls in the summer, and the girls will have numerous op portunities to attend in structional campé,’e luded. “We could use some height, but the other ingredients necessary for a good season are there. Maybe with a few right bounces we might even be better then good, but so will many of the teams that we do play.” FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS-MADE PERCENTAGE Lisa Abrutz 208-42-20., Missy Balash 217-56-25.8 percent Jenny Currie 127- 13-10.2 percent, Stacie Gontaruk 223-57-25.6 per cent, Cara Hendrix 336-142- 42.2 percent Carla Hendrix 139-37-26.6, Amy Madeline 140-44-31.
