Oyer, Senior High Principal of Babylon High School since 1936; Mr. Oyer’s request for retirement was formally accepted bythe Board at its regular meeting.The Board expressed its deep personal regret at Mr. Oyer's retirement and cited his thirty-two years of dedicated service to the community. Three members of the present board, Mrs, Elizabeth 'Van Bourgondien, Mr. Louis Wenger, and Mr. Henry Mablmann, hadknown Mr Oyer as their high school principal when they were students atBaby-lonHigH.Mr. Oyer and his wife Virginia live at Florence Court with their son Bob* a Junior at Babylon High School. Their daughter and son-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. William Ferigard and their three children live in Medford, LJ» Mr. Ferigard is with Grumman Aircraft Company.Mr. Oyer was bom and raised in Fennyslvania. He taught for three years in upstate NewYork, then for two years at fhtchogue. Mr. Percy Proctor was his High School Peincipal during his tenure at Ifetchogue High School. Mr., Proctor came to Babylon HighCyrus L. OyerSchool in 1935, and Mr. Oyer followed him in 1936.During his years at Babylon Mr. Oyer has served under two(Continued on Page 2)Syd Askoff, Babylon Village Mayor, made jpublic his annual budget estimate on Tuesday:The estimate calls for a tax rate reduction of $.01 per hundred dollars of assessed valuation. The rate last year stood at $1.94 while this years rate (1968-1969) is $1.93.The total budget for this year is estimated at $822,992.76 as compared to $807,197.00 for last year. Estimated revenues of $221,458.91 plus an estimated $10,000.00 surplus leave a total of $601,533.85. to be raised by taxes. This is slightly above the $593,050.84 required in 67-68. An Increase in assessed valuations from $30,569,631.00 in 67-68 to $31,167,557.00 for the coming year is estimated.Th*? budget provides for an increase in the services that the Village renders. Mayor Askoff emphasized that this is due to responsible money management hy the Village officials. The decrease in the tax rate represents the ninth consecutive year that the rate has been lowered.A public hearing will be held prior to April 15, the date to be set shortly with appropriate notice to the public.
