Wednesday with a big parade downtown at 4:30 p.m. and a first performance in Har dy Murphy Coliseum at 8 p.m. Performances will be night ly at 8 p.m. through Saturday night in the coliseum. at Ard more fairgrounds on Lake Murray Drive southeast. Approximately 200 cowboys are expected here to compete for an estimated $8,000 in prize money, and. points in the competition for, 1965,world championships. Stellar “attractions will ‘in clude tv Wagon Train stars Charley Wooster (Frank Mc Grath) and Bill Hawks (Terry Wilson) ‘and Ardmore’s own world champion: trick’ roper Junior Eskew. The tv stars are scheduled to arrive in’ Ard more Monday for a full week of activities. Already under way as. rodeo week activities. area: board growing contest. and,a city wide Western wear contest for both men s and women with winners to be announced and prizes awarded at rodeo per formances. Downtown area merchants are. to hold sidewalk sales Monday with clerks in Western and frontier dress to dispense bargains to customers. _ The parade in downtown Ardmore , beginning at 4:30 Wednesday. afternoon, will feature four: Shrine parade units: from Oklahoma City, including the . Mounted: Pa trol on ‘horseback, the ,Con-V Patrol with 21 white cadillacs, the Provost. Guards ,in their colorful costumes. of India Temple, and the motorcycle mounted Potentates ' Escort. Also booked for the parade ‘are_the Tarrant_County_Sher iff’s Posse from Fort Worth; roundup and riding clubs from Wynnewood, Chickasha, Healdton and other Southern Oklahoma and North Texas towns; and local horsemen and floats. Immediately after the pa rade, the’ Ardmore Jaycees are Sponsoring a barbecue, on south side of Hardy Murphy Coliseum, open to the public with tickets at $1 each. Al ready entered, are two of’ the leading contenders for world championships of 1965—Shawn Davis, Whitehall, Mont., lead ing.in.saddle bronc riding; and Glen. Franklin, House,N. M., reading—in--calf—roping— Already entered also are three former world champion cowboys, Freckles Brown, Soper, Okla.; Tom, Nesmith, Sulphur,La.; and:Guy Weeks, Abilene, Tex, Phil Hatcher, Randelett, Okla.,champion in steer wrestling here last year, is also an early entry. After the Thursday night performance, the Ardmore Jaycees are sponsoring a Bob Wills dance in south wing of the Coliseum, Friday and Saturday; night performances will include the famous Santa Rosa Palomino riding club: from Vernon, Tex., and the Harris County Sher iff's Posse from Houston. After the Friday night performance there is to be a Shrine Club party for the Santa Rosa’ and Harris County groups in south -wing-of-the- Coliseum. Also during the Friday night performance there will be pre sentation of awards in the board’ growing contest and an nouncement of winners in the Western Wear contest. On Saturday night, results of the queen contest will be an nounced and the queen crown ed. Competing for queen in advance ticket sales are Jackie Sargent, Toni Hunt and Joann Stuard, all of Ardmore; and Sue McCarthick of Tisho mingo.
