March 20.-Providence Tost, American Legion, wastoday granted permission to hold boxing bouts, and officials of the organization stated tonight that a competent matchmaker would at once be engaged. The license was granted by the Police Commission with the stipulation that proceeds from the bouts be devoted to the post’s welfare work.Active members of the organizationhave declared their intention of putting on some of the best boxers in the country and it is understood that all matches will be staged in Infantry Hall. The action of the National A. C. management in putting on men who for the most part are managed by club officials has hurt the game in Providence, it is asserted, and an effort will be made by the post to restore the sport to its former plane.
