Stephanie Johnson, 8, said that she likes 4-H because she won a first and a second place at the Agricultural Fair for her rabbit, Bella Bunny. “It’s fun because you get to enter your animals and you can do a lot of things like grow vegtables and win ribbons,”’ she said. ‘‘I have a rabbit but it growls at me. I think it learned from our dog.” Peter Sharron and Justin Martel said they’re both pretty smart guys. In fact Martel put it this way, ‘“‘Yep, I’m fresh from the oven. Sharron said he wants to be an ar chitect and Martel said he’d like to be a scientist. They both said their favorite part of 4H is making the float for the Memorial Day Parade because they get to make a big mess without having to clean it up. Jill Balawender, 11, has been in the 4H group for five years. She talked about how the group raised money by collecting empty bottles to go to Gloucester on a whale watching expedition. She said she wasn’t afraid of the whales but she didn’t like how they smelled like tuna fish. However, she also said that when she grows up she would like to go to Japan and work on a tuna boat catching fish. “I don’t mind the smell of tuna fish,’’ she said. ‘‘I just don’t like the smell of tuna on whales. Tania Pierce, 13, recently won a national 4H award, ‘‘The Loving Hands Award.” It is given to children who have an exceptional ability in handling and controlling animals Pierce said that when she grows up she wants to have a special kind of farm. “‘I want to grow up and make a farm for handicapped kids,’’ she said. ‘‘I’ll have chickens so they can feed them and horses they can brush and pet so they can see what a real farm is like.”
