by Kevin Novreske Guest Writer The Coe College Women’s Swim Team sent 5 swimmers to Canton, Ohio, for the NCAA Division III and Diving Champi onships. They returned home with 12 All-American positions and an 11th place finish as a team. On Thursday, March 13, the 200-meter medley relay, con sisting of Jennifer Gaard, Lynn Pumfrey, Marie Strilych and Jami Whittmore, took 14th with a time of 1:55.66. This time established a new school record, and the finish earned them Honorable Men tion All American status in the NCAA. Swimming in the 500-meter free, Gaard also earned Honora ble Mention All American with a 13th place finish. Her time of 5:15.35 bettered her own school record. The last event on Thursday was the 800-meter free relay. Gaard, Whittemore, Strilich and Brigette Bergemann combined to take 6th place with a school record time of 7:58.07. This finish earned the relay All-American status. Friday, March 14, began with Gaard, Whittemore, Strilich, and Bergemann joining forces to place 6th in the 200-meter free relay, with another new school record time of 1:40.58. Once again this finish earned them All-American status. Swimming individual events on Friday were Whittemore and Gaard in the 200-meter free. Whittemore took 16th with a time of 1:58.75. This time earned her an Honorable Men tion with All-American status. Gaard swam to an 18th place with a time of 1:58.96. Also swimming Friday was the 400-meter medley relay, consisting of Gaard, Pumfrey, Bergemann and Whittemore. They swam to a 23rd place finish with a 4:17.03. Ending the meet on Saturday was the 400-meter free relay. Gaard, Whittmore, Strilich, and Bergemann joined to place third behind Kenyon College and Pomona-Pitzer, two of the top teams in the meet. Their finish earned them All- American titles, while establish ing a new school record of 1:38.05. As a team, Coe finished in 11th place with 95 points, only 12 points shy of a 10th place spot.
