BLUFFS RUN DONATES MONEY TORURAL COMMUNITIESd fans as Oakland won the opening game12:15 pm in second round action of theFor the first time during the greyhound racing season, patrons at Bluffs Run wagered over $1,000,000 during theSaturday, March 8th matinee and evening performances. Because of this Million Dollar Day pre designated civicand social organizations in Pottawattamie County will be wealthier.Iowa West Racing Association President, John Nelson, made the announce ment Wednesday, March 12 at Bluffs Run and presented each of the Desig nated organizations a portion of thepre-determined $100,000. The contribu tion is another Iowa West step toward achieving a license to conduct parimutuel wagering in Council Bluffs - to improve the quality of life in this area by contributing revenue to various organiza tions. Their goal of producing jobs, added revenue and quality entertain ment in Pottawattamie County were clearly accomplished during Bluffs Run's opening week. Nelson said once the tracks indebtedness is paid off, Iowa West will begin regular annual donationsto charitable groups.Present at the press conference were members of the Iowa West Board. Iowa West, a local non profit corporation, holds the license to conduct greyhound racing in Council Bluffs.Organizations in our area to receive checks for $1,000 in honor of Bluffs Run’s first Million Dollar Day are CarsonY’outh/Betterment, Hancock Youth/ Betterment, Macedonia Youth/Betterment, McClelland Youth/Betterment, Oakland Youth/Betterment, Treynor Youth/Betterment, Botna Valley Shrine Club, East Pott. 4-H Trust Fund, and Pott. County Fair Association.Ideas Needed To Spend $1,000Everyone knows how to spend $1,000, right? Many ideas have been put forth for the use of the $1,000 awarded to Carson from Bluffs Run.So that everyone has an equal opportunity for input, the following plan hasbeen put into motion:1. Send your ideas for the use of the money to Carson, %Dixie Rose, CityHall, Carson, IA 51525.2. Come to the meeting March 31 at 7:00PM at City Hall to discuss ideas that have been sent in.
