Senator Chaffee Dead*A New York dispatch, March 9, says: Ex-Senator Jerome B. Chaffee of Colorado died at 3 o’clock this morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Ulyssess S. Grant, at Salem Center, West Chester county. The death resulted from laryngitis, which de^l»pe,d on Saturday last.Mr. Chaffee left Colorado two weeks ago, suffering from an old complaint which had gradually developed into acute cystitis. He arrived at the residence of his son-in-law a week ago to-day, and called a physician who relieved him of this difficulty, and he was progressing very nicely, when he took cold, which settled in his throat, producing the disease which resulted fatally. Monday his condition became so alarming that another doctor was telegraphed for from New York.On his arrival the doctor found the patient suffering the agony of suffocation and with little or nothing hopeful in the symptoms, but gave him such temporary relief as medical science could suggest. AU efforts failed and the patient died rather suddenly from a spasm of suffocation. ,This evening Colonel Fred Grant and wife ahd Stephens Elkins went to Salem Center. Undertaker Merrit will embalm the body tomorrow. The funeral will be held at Adrain,Mlch- V «The deceased was 61 years old, was bom in Niagara county, this state, and made an immense fortune in Colorado Bilver mines, much of which he lost through the Grant Ward failure. *
