Waaniaton, Marcel 11, 1872.In the house today Mr Blaie of Michigan offered a resolu tion for the appointment of a special commit tee of five to investigate the charges made in the newspapers against the Secretary of the Navy. General Binks sent to the Clerk's desk to be read a letter from the Secretary of the Navy, requesting that bis friends in the House allow the investigation proceed .The Resolution was accordingly passed, and the Speaker has appointed the following commit tee: Messrs. Blair of Michigan, Sargent, Pa tera, Workers, and Warren. Similarly enough, three members of this committee are aginst the Secretary, vizs Mesara, Blair, Vor heen, and Warren. ‘This makes the tenth ‘a vestigating committee appointed since the op ening of the seasion. No less than six of them were in full blast to dig. Geneman who talk of economy seem to forget the expense of these investigations, all of which comes out of the public treasury. When it is remembered that for the most part they are originated by disappointed and haf fld contractors and other foreheads, you will appreciate just now how much interest the people at large have in them. There is not one of them that will not cost the government on an average ten thousand dollars, some of them twenty or thirty thouand, not to speak of absorbing the time of the Senators and and members who are appointed to serve on them. The worst of all is that nothing ever comes of them, nothing that can possibly con duce to the public good. They simply serve to gratify private malice or partisan hate. If Congress keeps on at the present rate there will be as many investigating Committees as there are standing committees of the Senate, TIME AND MONEY BEING WASTED,
