Separate Prills to ContinueGuard Shakeup Merges Olney, Jacksboro UnitsThe Texas National Guard units of Olney and Jacksboro are now a combined organization.This is a result of a reorganisation of the National Guard, announced Monday by Governor Price Daniel.Olney’s Guard was formerly Battery B of the 645th Armored Field Artillery of the 49th Armored Division, Texas National Guard. Jacksboro’s unit was Battery B, 131st Field Artillery, 36th Infantry Division.The new, combined unit is designated Battery B, First Howitzer Battalion, 645th Combat Arms Regiment of the 49th Armored Division,Headquarters at W.F.C.Olney and Jacksboro’s Battery B will be part of the Armored Howitzer Battalion with headquarters at Wichita Fulls, The Battalion's Headquarters Battery and A Battery are at Wichita Falls, B Battery at Olney and Jacksboro, C Battery at Vernonand Service Battery at Electra.Headquarters of the 64 5th Combat Arms Regiment, which replaces the former 49th Division Artillery Headquarters, will be at Wichita Falls and the 49th Armored Division Headquarters will be at Dallas.Captain Robert G. James of Jacksboro, former commander of the unit there, wilt be commander of the combined Olney and Jacksboro unit. Lt. Walter C Crocker, former commander of the Olney unit, has been re assigned to the headquarters staff in Wichita Falls.First Lieutenunt James E. Chappell of Archer City , the unit executive officer, will for the present bo in charge of the Olney portion of the battery, Warrant Officer Gene Mounco of Jacksboro will be administrator for the combined battery.To Drill SeparatelyPresent plans for Olnoy-Jacks boro Battery B call for two off!cers and 42 enlisted men to drill at the Olney armory; three officers and 41 enlisted men to drill at the Jacksboro armory. Guardsmen of both towns drill on Monday nights.Jacksboro will have Battery B headquarters, maintenance, detail and howitzer sections one, two and three.
