NEW YORK, N. Y.—The Unit ed States Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn., is accept ing applicants for the 1947 en trance examination. Admiral Jo seph F. Farley, Coast Guard com mandant announced today. Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 22. Physical requirements include 20.20 vi sion and a minimum height of five feet six inches. High school scholastic requirements include two years of algebra one year of plane geometry, three years of English and one year of physics. For the first time, trigonometry will not be required. Applicants for the examina tions will be accepted until March 31. The tests will be held May 7 and 8 in key cities throughout the U. S., to be an nounced later. Those who qualify will not need congressional appointment for acceptance to the academy, the commandant said. After four years of intensive training, cadets are graduated with a bachelor of science de gree in engineering and commis sioned as United States Coast Guard ensigns. Gilbert Mr. and Mrs. Art Siegel and daughter, Ada, were visitors Sunday at the O. A. Larson home, Earl Tew and Lucien Sowada have been logging on their re spective properties. Art Siegel and son, Leon, have cut several thousand feet of logs this past winter. Mr. and Mrs I. J. Doucette and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Doucette were guests at the Wilfred Odette home for Saturday night supper. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Doucette have purchased the former Mor tenson farm and intend to move there soon. At present they are staying there and remodeling the house. Bert Shew of Brain erd is their carpenter The Lammer, Lodermeier, Hayes and Orton farms were connected with the REA line last Monday. Dist. 148-112 also has electricity. R. Bennett finished wiring at their farm home this week and bought a milking machine. Mrs. Leo Lammer accompan ied her brother, Everett Loder meier to St. Cloud Thursday. Everett went for a checkup af ter his recent operation. Mrs. Leon Smart and daughters spent the day at the Lemmer home. Mr. Helmerick of Randall is sawing logs for Leo Tuholski. Felix Tuholski of Cloquet is hauling the lumber to Brainerd. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Miller of Brainerd and Miss Lila Bement who attends high school in Brainerd were Sunday visitors at the R. Bement home.
