Exoneration of one driver and a ruling of reckless driving against another was given by a coroner's jury in Los Angeles yesterday fol lowing testimony regarding the death of Wm. W. Maloney, 80, Los Angeles man fatally hurt Thurs day night in a hit and run wreck in Huntington Beach, which resulted in the arrest of three persons. Thomas H. Johnson, 42, of Or ange, who is one of two persons held for manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid after an ac cident, was named by the jury as being guilty of reckless driving. Johnson's truck sideswiped the Ma loney car but Johnson claims that he was not driving the truck at the time of the accident. Mrs. Alice D. Pallisten, who is charged jointly with Johnson, was driving the ve hicle when arrested by Santa Ana but denied driving at the time of the wreck. Johnson has secured his release from the county jail on bond and is scheduled to have his preliminary examination in the Huntington Beach city court on March 25 at 10 a. m. The inquest was held in the Los Angeles coroner's office because Maloney was removed to Los An geles before his death, and thus placed the jurisdiction of the death in Los Angeles county. Maloney'’s daughter, Miss Elizabeth Maloney, 2h, was driving the Maloney ma chine at the time of the crash. A third passenger in the truck, Mrs. Freddie Garrison, is serving a 16 day term for drunkenness.
