Photographs Depicting Early Day Scenes in Van Wert Placed on Display. The Brumback Library has an un usually interesting display of pictures of early Van Wert. The management of the library announces: Street scenes before there was any paving, wooden buildings where brick blocks now stand, early churches, old mills, etc. Some of the pictures were taken by I. S. Hartsock, who came to Van Wert in 1861 and established himself here as the first photographer. The date of one picture is not known, but has been placed at about 1860. The oldest picture that is dated was taken in 1873. Other pictures are not so old but are of equal interest as they picture the growth of the town. There are forty-eight pictures in the collection loaned by twenty-five exhibitors. The library has arranged this display as a part of the city’s centennial celebration. It will be shown for the next two weeks.
