Knocks Man Down Before a Number of People. THE TWO ARE MISSING Walter Jordan is ‘Held Under His Own Recognizance on Charge of Assault and Battery on the Man He Found in His Wife’s Company, But She and Robert Conan Have Disap peared, and An Escopement is Sus pected. The police are looking for Robert Donan. Donan is to be asked concern ing his actions at the Salvation Army hall in Union street Thursday night. He is to be held on charge of fight ing, and the case is the outcome of a combat in Union street, near the entrance to the hall, between Donan and Walter Jordan, over Jordan’s wife. The story at police station is to the effect that Conan, who is a newcomer, attended the Salvation Army services on the night mentioned and “made a date” with Mrs. Jordan, to escort her to her home, two blocks from the hall. Jordan says he passed the hall just at the closing hour, expecting to take his wife home himself when the ser vice was over. He saw her engaged in low conversation with Conan, and he thinks that the two were then mak ing the engagement that caused all the trouble. He said that he stepped down to the entrance of the Hall livery barn, a few feet away, and waited for his wife to come out. When she came she was hanging onto Conan’s arm, and the two were apparently on the most friendly terms. Neither of them saw the waiting husband. When the couple came near Jor dan he struck Conan and knocked him down. The man arose with a knife, and only the quick intervention of the rest of the people who had come out of the hall prevented serious trouble. Conan was persuaded to leave the scene, and the angry husband was re quired to promise that he would go home and cause no further trouble. During the time the woman had dis appeared, Jordan said that his wife did not immediately return home, but stayed at the home of a neighbor until an early hour in the morning. He said that he caused no further trouble, telling her that she might go or stay, as she liked, but that if she stayed she must make no more engagements with strange men. She replied that she was going to go. Both she and Conan are missing. Jordan thinks that both of them are in the city, but the police are of the opinion that the couple have left to gether. They do not believe the wo man’s story told to her husband, that she had never seen Conan before, but think that they had met by prear rangement. The husband is held on a charge of assault and battery, upon his own recognizance. If the others can be found the case will be called in city court this, Saturday, after noon,
