1 14M1 v —---7 ~three months. . M _Burglary Murder.Maidstone.—G. Milieu,17, and H. beep wash, 16, were indicted for tb# wilful murder of WiUiaa Law» by beating him on the bead with m iton bar.—The deceased was an old roan of about eighty, but his facultias were good, save bid bear ng. After being barbarously treated by the prisoners, he managed to crawl to a neighbouring cottage, iand lingered from the 7th to the 11th of February. —wflliatn Law deposed that the deceased was his grandfather. He was present when Millen was apprehended, and be observed *t the time that there was the mark of blood upon the right le? of his tro*iers. On the 9th Feb. Millen wasenfined in the look-up place at Ashford, and be called to witness and told him that if witness would kneel down by him be would fell him all about his grandfather's robbery. He then went oa to say that be and Sheep w*sb were both agreeable to commit the r bbery, and that he took out the pane of glass and opened the door,ani they both went into the bouse. Sbeepwath bad an iron bar, and be bad a chisel. They struck a light, and be forced the sttircase door olf the binges wiiba chitel, and they rhen both went up otairs, but before they went into the old man's room they each tied a handkerchief over their bead. Sbiepwash then burst open the bedroom door, and they went in, and when the old man pulled the bed curtains on one side, be immediately struck him with, the iron bar on the bead and said, “ You take that.'’ The deceased upon this begged for mercy* saying he was a poor old man, and begging that his Ijfe might be spared. Sheepwa^b then struck him again, and the deceased canght bold of the iron bar, and be then called out to bun (Mtllen),lt;f Strike the r.” Witness asked him if he aid do so, and be said be did net, but that he raH down stairs, and as he turned his head he saw Sbeepwash^rike th^ old m?n again two or three times. Millen then told him that Sheep wash soon afterwards joined him, and produced the breeches of the deceased, and at the same time said. ‘I-think-we hare killed the 0]d Millen than said there was no money in thebreeches, and they thf«w them into the pond with the bar of iron. The prisoner also told him that Sheep wash produced three sausr.gfs, which they agreed to have for breakftst on the following Sunday morning, but they subsequently threw th^ra into the river.—The statements made by the prisoners before the magistrate were then put in.—Millen said, u I bare nothing to aay. Ail I told William Law was qui e true. The piece of iron that has been produced is whai Sbeepwash cnt the old man with.
