CCRR seeks housing leadership fromchurchTHE CHICAGO metropolitan area is currently confronted by a grave moral issue regarding provision for adequate low and moderate income housing for its citizens. Religious bodies serving this community have long and repeatedly declared that a free and open society requires that housing be available throughout the total metropolitan area without consideration of race, economic status, or age.The critical human need for adequate housing is acknowledged by all; responsibility for meeting that need must be accepted by all sectors of society, both public andprivate.EVERY LEVEL of government - city, county, state and national - must assume its recognized responsibility for providing leadership in meeting this need. None dare evade this obligation by alleging that initiative rests elsewhere. It is equally obvious that piecemeal, localized programs are inadequate to meet this problem in a metropolitan community of 7*2 million persons. Together, both city and suburbs must now take bold, positive steps toward solution of the housing crisis. Any delay in fulfilling the lawaggravates the volatile condition across the total community. Not only do we call on public officials and agencies to fulfill their responsibilities, but we urge every citizen to understand and to make his contribution toward a just resolution of this problem. The Chicago Conference on Religion and Race, within the context of the Judeo-Christian tradition, urges all churches and synagogues to provide leadership for a solution of this moral issue.Ranneker meetHie Banneker School, 6656 Normal Blvd., wishes to announce its public meeting to elect officers and members for its Local School Council.
