A PROTEST AGAINST STREET CARNIVALSTlie member* of the many women's organizations of the city, led by the W. C. T. I'., have been circulating petitions to the Mayor and Council, protesting against the coming of street carnivals to our city, and a large numler of signatures have l»een obtained. On account of sickness many people of the town have not been seen. This the ladies regret, but it is significant that probably not more than half a dozen of those approached have refused to sign. Surely the authorities will recognize the overwhelming public sentiment ngainst these shows, and will see to it that we shall never again have to endure them in our midst.The petition is as follows: To theHonorable Mayor and Council of the City of Winder: Gentlemen:—We, the undersigned citizens of Win der (and its various women’s organizn tions) realizing the immoral tendencies of street, carnivals and their demoraliz Ing influence on the young people of our city and the surrounding community, humbly pray you not to allow another such carnival to visit our city.(Signed:) A.
