PRINCE OF INDIA LECTURES ON WARPrince Sarath Ghosh of Ghosh-Para Tells About “The New Orientand the War”His Opinion Was that Russia is the Real Menace in the War India Big FactorA rare treat was enjoyed on Monday evening, February 28, when Prince Sarath Ghosh of Ghosh—Para, India, spoke to us on “The New Orient and the War.” He is a true patriot and has devoted his life to educate the people of other nations to know and realize what India really has been and is. To accomplish this he travels almost continuously, his American tours usually occupying from October to May. The lecture delivered here is only one of a number that Prince Gosh gives in his course; the others comprise the arts, religious, position of women in India, industries and others.The first portion of his talk was devoted to a most careful and unbiased analysis of national policies previous to the war, which made it almost inevitable. Briefly the analysis showed the immediate cause to be the terrific preparedness craze” that swept all Europe because of certain nationalpolicies:Russia—Get an outlet on some sea other than the Antarctic, Baltic and inland seas.Germany—Another sea port; industrial protection.England—Colonial protection.France — Self-defense, remembering1870-1.Italy Control of the Adriatic and self-defense.Belgium—Attempt to preserve neutrality.Servia—Outlet on the sea.Turkey—Regaining of former power as advocated by the new patriots, the “Young Turks.” Having thus shown why the various nations turned their attention to arm-ln8 themselves he showed how Ger-many and England quickly took the lead and going ahead so fast that othernations, witness France, could notstand the pace and had to drop out. Then the German need for another seaport asserted itself and the Serb-Austrian rupture served as the apparent P^nge of Germany into the war; elgium and France answered(Continued on Page 2)
