• MAINLAND EXTRA THURSDAY MORNING, MARCH 17.1988Foiey ProvenzanoGeorga MeadorKen FrancisJim KrupkaGene Trombieeies DaughtryUnited Way directors elected for 1988-89Jane BaucumTEXAS CITY — At a recent meeting held at the Mainland Bank’s Board Room of the Board of Directors of the Mainland Communities United Way, a slate of directors for the 1988-89 year were presented to the board by the nominating committee chaired by Ivan Langford.The board accepted these nominations and elected the new directors to terms as follows: Three-year directors are Bob Alcock, Duane Bryson, Skippy Collins, T.G. Fitzgerald, Joan Frankovich, Ronnie Gray, Dick Keenan, John Kvinta, Evan Langford, Lee Sandheinrich, Ed Smith and Jane Taeuber.Two year directors are Jane Baucum, Cathy Clampit. Nancy Cox, Pat Dispensa, Ken Francis,Ralph Holm, Ralph Hope, Ramona Kelly, Dale Osborne, Larry Stanley, Gene Trombiee and Mac Hewlett.One year directors are T.O. Collier, Les Daughtry, Ken DeMaet, Chuck Gautschy, Georgia Haney, Curtis Holloway, Mike Moses, Foley Provenzano, Billie Moore, Jake Samuels, Dwight Spurlock and Charles Yoes.In addition, the following were elected to a one-year term at large: Bill Andoe, Rose Archie, David Baker, Bill Banks, John Barber, Mike Bartholomew. Gene Trombiee, plant manager of Sterling Chemicals, will serve as vice president and campaign chairman. Others elected were: Les Daughtry, Jr.. Texas City Sun publisher, vice president and cocampaign chairman: Jim Krupka, Amoco Gas plant manager, vice president of budget and admissions; Ken Francis, vice president of Texas City National Bank, treasurer; Dr. George Meador. Galveston county extension agent, secretary; and Foley Provenzano, plant manager of Union Carbide, immediate post president.The board also heard a report and recommendations from a special budget review committee chaired by Ken Francis. Their recommendations, because of circumstances presented by each of the following agencies, were for a special one-time grant to cover extraordinary expenses for 1988 due to the economic condition of our communities and to serve the “new poor and homeless.The recommendations were as follows: Bayshore Community Relief. $500,000; M I. Lewis Social Service Center. Si.000: La Marque Aid and Guidance. $1,500: TexasHRA bike-a-thon setCity Aid and Guidance, $3,500; Catholic Charities, $1,000; American Red Cross. $6,000; Family Service, S5,OOG;Salvation Army, $4,200: Women's Crisis Center, $6,000; Association for Retarded Citizens. $3,200: Special Friends, $1,000: La Marque Lions Youth Activity Center, $1,000; Big Brothers/Big Sisters. $4,500: South Texas Girl Scouts, $2,000: Information and Referral, 2,500: Mainland Communities United Way. $2,500: and the Alcohol/Drug Abuse Women'sCenter. $2,000.Francis stated that one-time grants would total S47.400. He stated that these recommendations are in keeping with United Way's mission: “To increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.Foley Provenzano reported that H. Sam Reid. Executive Director of the Mainland Communities United Way. was elected president of the Texas United Way Directors Association at their annualmeeting held in San Antonio inJanuary.Jane Baucum. general campaign chairperson for 1987-88, stated that while all divisions of the campaign did outstanding jobs, there were leaders in each division.
