Columbus—Pancho Villa, with between 400 and 500 men, attacked Columbus at 4:30 a. m. on the 9th, shot up the town, killing a number of civilians, men and women, and then retreated about 6 o’clock under the fire of three troops of the United States Thirteenth Cavalry. He left part of the town in ashes.
