A number of the boys started for head waters Tuesday to ran down timbers with the spring freslet “Nobs,” the junk man, meandered “over the hills and faraway,” to McKean county recently. The schools have closed, No.1 on the 4th and No. 2 the 11th inst. The teach ers, Miss Schott of No. 1 and Miss Beatty of No. 2, deserve credit for the work they did during the winter. Each school gave a very interesting entertainment at the closing. Samuel Painter returned to Bradford Tuesday after visiting his parents here a few days. Mr. Hovis changed his location this week. Mrs. Zealy, mother of Rev. O. M. Sackett's wife, who has been lying very ill for some time, is now improving Lumber is being put on the ground for the new Lutheran church to be built here this summer. Mr. Crossman is still on the sick list. The Sunday schools are reported in a prosperous condition. Patterson Leedom have broken ground for a new rig on the Soaplat tract, located on a 45 ° line from the Oak Shade well, recently completed on the Baker. The new well is not more than 300 feet from a dry hole drilled by the same company four years ago, part of the rig of which is still standing, and the line passes within 200 feet of the dry hole. Another dry hole was drilled about 600 feet south of the big now building, by the Oak Shade oil company, about the same time that Patterson Leedom drilled their's, north of it. Pat terson Leedom drilled another cluster less than 1,000 feet north, and following the 45 ° line across the stream (Deer creek), past the old furnace and up the hill for a quarter of a mile, we find an other dry hole acarcely 800 feet south of the line, and on a till farther, a half mile or so,on the Eiseman farm, is a cluster in close proximity on the north, all of which were driled about four years ago if paying wells are found or, this special narrow line, it will be strong confirma tion of the straight line theory, though it is evident that no extensive field can be developed. The Oak Shade company will locate a couple of wells this week, and it is expected drilling will be quite active for a period in the immediate vi cinity. The line produced southwest crossea the Dan Kiser farm at Elk and the Whitehill, EDENBURG. The pupils of the public schools pass ed an examination this week, which gave very satisfactory results. Under the principalship of Professor Ander son it is one of the best schools in the county. Mr. Phillips, who has been ill for some time, is convalescing rapidly. Mr. Tom Dutton moved his family to the Byrom district the latter part of last week. The public school at Forest Home closed with a literary exhibition Mon day evening. Mr. Gates is here on a brief visit to his family at the American house, the popular temperance hotel, and will re turn to Brookville this week. J. W. Rowland, of Emlenton, was here on business Monday. Miss Maggie Williamson, of Rochester, N. Y., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Calson, here this week, Phebe W. Couzins lectured here Mon day evening to a not very large audience. Nela Johnson, the very efficient offi cer, had a lively chase after a young fel low who was wanted for disturbing a religious meeting, out in Ashland last night. The fellow escaped with the aid of other persons. A gentleman who has been stopping here for some months, goes to Pitts burgh this week, to claim a bride under novel circumstances. He is a native of Switzerland, and was engaged to a young lady there, but her parents refused their consent to the marriage, and sixteen years on, the gentleman came to America, and has been here ever since. Last week, he received a letter to meet his loved one, who has come over them at Pittaburgh and marry her, if they find that they desire to fulfill the engagement they have held sacred 80 long. It is a remarkable case of constancy in these days of broken vows, Mr. Simonds of Forest home, is down from Bradford visiting his family, Mrs. Crandall and son Harry have re turned from an extended tour to New York, and other points, Prof. Smith will hold a singing con vention here in the near future, Tom, Travers returned from the east Saturday, and dodyast it, if he hasn't a whole car load of new goods.
