Wm. 0. Mead, J. L. and T. D. Hieks, Jno. E. Cote and J, I?. Hopkins were posted in the Masonic Hat!, the windows of which overtop tha bank. Op Sunday morning, between two sod three o’clock, two of the burglsrs, T. J. Henley and John Longan, approached the rear doar of the bank. Hurt and William Henley acting as sentinels, the former being posted in front of the hank and the tatter near Renfro’s aaloon. The bank door was secured by a spring lock, whieh was fastened on the inside. This was out by 3im Henley and Longan, tbe door opened. A» soon as the door was opened and tbe burglars apteredftbd baildiag, they became alaruffPat some noise in front of tbe house and started to run, when fire was opened upon them by the guards from the windows of the Masonie Hall, some thirty teet distant. As soon as the first shot was fired ino of the guard#, T. IX Hicks and John Cole, hastened down from tb* ball for the purpose of intercepting the rethwt of the burglars, one of them gtung to the front and the ether to the rear of tbe building. Both fired at them as they ran.It is supposed that Hicks shot Longan, and Ole thinks he struck Henley, as the latter fell and uttered an exclamation • f pain, but *uc* 'needed in making hie escape. Longan ran to the river, then came bark and went into Amrine’s restaurant, where he was captured. A gun known to have belonged to Hanley was found where be fell when shot at by Ole. Longan. received three -one ntAr* tbe left knee joint, and one near the right knee, and one in the right thigh, none of theigL dpagarous. « O.ie abet was fired by the burglars after they entered the bank, the charge passing through the transom window o! the door. Some think this shot was fired at what was supposed to be a man inside inside the building, but our theory is that it was the accidental discharge of Henley’s gun, when fee was opetwd upon them from .I lie Masonic Hall,To young Hurt, notwithstanding the fact that he was in company with the burglars when the robbery waa attenlptsxV is due the praise of giving ike information whtclr led to tbe discovery and consequent frustration of the plot..' Tbe programme of the burglars’ proceedings having been inadvertently disclosed -to him, he wsa asked to taka a band, and upon hesitating to do so, his life was threatened. He then went ta Mr. Mead, revealed to him the whole PK and was advised by that gentlemen to act as if in full symjiathy with them, and when the attempt was made to carry a white handkerchief in bia hand, so that the guards could distinguish him. Hu carried out this arrangement in good faith and should be suitably rewarded .Tbaekiasnsawf officer! of the law are hunting for the other burglars, and hope to capture them.Black Hills Must Nof he ImfittedSteamerllurnetl at Illinois.Chester,A $10,000 Blaze at Springfield, Missouri.Further Particulars of the Lost Steamer.A Cleveland Powder Mill lx-plodesAnd Prodoees a Teriflc Earthquake.Loss of Life and Property.Destrneti re Fire at the State Capitol.Ete.,Etc.Etc.street?; horses becar adding to the alarm h ing; much damage tlt; done. The large plate g! photograph rooms, goods store, New Ci lag’s Block,’Standard eral place* being .shattThe damage in il mated at $25,000 to £BEECHER TIJudge Fuller ton A;I»ost.Cooke Stows upTilton and Wood hi nayjlslaiOpposed to the Jul UnderlinSO ADMISSION.Sait Laks City, March 16 —The Secretary of War has addressed communication to Gen Sherman saying: That id) expeditions into that portion of the country known us the Black Hills country, must be prevented as long as the present treaty exists.
