BY TELEGRAPHTO THIS PAPER EXCLUSIVELY.FROM WASHINGTON.General Items.Washington, March 15.—-In a recentexamination for promotions in the internal revenue bureau, under the civil service rules, one lady received a fourth class clerkship at $1,800, another a third class at $1,000, while of ten other persons appointed to second class clerkship six arc women. Miss Leary, who received the fourth class clerkship, has been employed in the officefor o/er ten years, and for several years has had exclusive charge and direction of the copying division.Pardons have been issued by the President to John C. Robinson, of South Carolina, and William C. Dupriest, of North Carolina, both convicted of kuklnxism and sentenced to two years in the Albany penitentiary. The former has served six and the latter eighteen months.The currency balance in the treasury now is $1,500,000. These figures arc lower than for a great many years. The outstanding legal tender notes are $357, 155,000.Secrctaiy Bout well will continue as secretary of the treasury for three or four days longer. Judge Richardson’s friends are not now so confident of his accession tothe office.
