Bitter Fight Ensued When Men Were Arrested., PITTSBURG, Mar. 16—After a bit ter hye at Saturday morning, the United States secret offizea, aided by the po lice of Pittsburg, captured one of the biggest and best equipped counterfer ding dens in the history of the secret service department. Only two counterfeiters were cap tured, but they was caught in the act of making the new “19077 silver halt dears, which has flooded the counry for the past three months. Four other persons were arrested later, as suspects, but the authorities are helping their Links secret for the time. The COMN+ terfeiting plant was located at 555 Braddock Avenme, in Braddock, a sub urb of Pittsburg, behind a little cigar store. For four weeks detectives Leff, Lally, Dillon and Hunley, of the Pits burg office, have been shadowing the plue, and having rounded everything up Satuday morning, they sent for the United States secret service people to assist them in making the 1ai], as they were outside the city l mit. There were several shots fired and a fierce hand-to-hand fight, in which Haas and Furman were over powered, followed. There were found fifty perfect dies for making the new half dollar, and 536 of the perfect counterfeits boxed ready for shipment, besides several hundred other coins just made. Counterfeit Almost Perfect. The secret service authorities say it is the most perfect imitation of a half dollar ever encountered. ‘Pittsburg has been flooded with the coins and, it is thought, other cities have been sup plied from ‘here.
