Henry Williamson.W. A. SPECKcame to Owensville in Feb. 1854, and opened a general store in partnership with Fred. Wiggiughaufe. The firm was known as WiggiDghaufe Speck until 1856, when Mr. Speck bought Wigginghaufe's interest. Mr. Speck was bom in Baerwalde, Germany, in 1829. His father, Carl Speck, was a dyer and also a stamper of linen goods. He was a native of Germany. His mother, Dorethea Nobse, was also a native of Germany. Mr. Speck received such education as is common in Germany, attending school until the age of fourteen, when he found employment in a large mercantile establishment, where he remained six years. In 1849, he served two years in the Prussian army, and in the fall of 1851 came to America, locating in Evansville, clerking in a store until he came to Owensville, in 1854. Mr. Speck has been married twice. In 1855, he married Miss Lissette Wig-winghaufe. They had two children, Emma, now living in Owensville, and Lissette, now living in Oakland City. He was married the second time to Miss Lizzie Schelasky, of Evansville, in 1861. They have three children, Randolph, Laura and Eliza, all living in Owensville. Mr. Speck has one of the handsomest stores in Owensville, and carries a full line of everything that cau be found in a general store.J. P. f!OY
