SPORTS BARSTOW — The Barstow High track teams went in differ ent directions in their home opener with San Gorgonio Thursday. The boys topped their opponents 9412 to 23% while the Lady Aztecs were blown away by the Spartans 87-31. The Aztecs boys (2-0 in the San Andreas League) won every event Thursday but the BHS la dies won just two events. The Aztecs swept the discus with Charles O’Neal (118 feet, 7 inches) coming in first, Brian Aleman (112-9) second and Donald O’Connor (112-3) third. O'Neal also won the shot put (44). BHS also swept the 400 with Mark Hassell (54.9 seconds), Lawrence Chandler (56.7) and Brian Notario. Hassell also won the 800 (2:06.5). Ken Golsten barely edged out a Spartan for second in the 800 with a 2:08.5. Junior Marvin Wilkie won the long jump (18-10) and the 110- meter hurdles (16.12) while tak ing second in the 300 hurdles (43.93). Chad Jordan was second in the 110 hurdles (17.5). Brae Hackbarth won both the 100 (11.66) and 200 (24.43), edging out teammate Ricardo Robinson in the 200 (24.5). Dustin Mayberry won the 1,600 (4:52.7) while Joey Ybarra was second (4:55). Mike Bilsborough won the 3,200 (10:15) as Cole Wat son came in third (11:09). Antoine Jackson won the high jump (5-6) while taking second in the long jump (18-1). The Lady Aztecs (1-1 in the SAL) were led by sophomore Genia Seymore’s first-place fin ish in the 400 (1:08.7). She also was second in the 100 (13.2) and second in the 200 (28.24). Class mate Roberta Chavez was second in the high jump (4-8), third in the 300 low hurdles (54.32) and third in the shot put (26-3). Somer Bonar finished second in the 800 (2:41.4) while Robbie Ray took second in the 1600 (6:27). Crystal Simmons was sec ond in the long jump (12-10) and third in the 100 low hurdles (21.08). There wasn’t triple jump or pole vault events Thursday be cause it was too dangerous from the rain, said coach Jim Duarte. The Aztecs’ next SAL opponent is Pacific Thursday. “After we beat Miller, who we feel is generally always a league contender, their coach said ‘good luck against Pacific,’ Duarte said. “He didn’t mention any other team, just Pacific.
