The art of basket weaving was discussed and Indian baskets of many kinds were shown by Elsie Allen for members of the Saturday Af ternoon Club over the weekend. A papoose basket, baskets for prinding, sifting and cooking, willow baskets, three stick baskets, twine weave and baskets woven before 1937 in a lost art, were among the many shown the club members by Mrs. Allen, herself a Pomo basket weaver. Accompanying Mrs. Allen and introduced by her were Marjorie Maize, Jeanette Brown, Frances Dawson and Cynthia Daniels. Nine Indian children of varying ages, all dressed in blue jeans and white shirts, sang “My Country Tis of Thee,’ and “Put Your Hand in the Hand,” and danced to Indian music. They were Matt Williams, Suzanne Trevins, Romilio Hernandez, Tonya Antoni, Renetta Hernandez, Melody Lockart, Minerva Warden and Augrey Brown. A top hat of green and two large green candles surrounded by shamrocks were used to decorate the head table. Smaller tables of the clubrooms were centered with shamrocks and a green candle surrounded by pink camellias. Hostesses wore green aprons. They were the Mesdames Ted Hamilton, Chester Hahn, and Helen Coe. Mrs. P.D. Wilsey was program chairman. Neva Green collected $11.40 in Pennies for Art.
