Sometime during 1909-10, between 21 and 22 years ol age, this young man mimed Roy felt that God called him to the Christian ministry, lie felt that if he was to fulfill this c *il and make his work effective, he must prepare himself for the task. Thus at the age of 24 years, he entered the Meridian Academy in 1913 where he was placed in the sixth grade. M. E. Church. By Bishop Elias Cottrell. He returned to Newell Chapel in 1942 where he served until he was elected to the Episcopacy in May, 1946.lie organized the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance in 192G. Carter and others, Roy L. Young cnterd Paine College, Augusta, Georgia., where*he participated in student activities and was recognized as an organizer. He received his A. B. degree from this institution in 1923.^ On December 19. 1023. he was married to Miss Estella Otis by the Reverend E. B. Blackman. In the summer of 1924 he did some graduate work in Theology at Garrett Biblical Institute. Northwestern University, in Evanston. Illinois.He was ordJined in November of 1923 and pastured Good water, Mt. Pleasant Circuit. Mt. Olive: and Newell Chapel C. M. E. Churches. It was at the latter that he spent his best years. He came to Newell Cftapel in 1)926. In 1927 he administered thf building of this churchth|im/iwith a smf 11 group of members num-the stale oi Alabama.Surely his life shall stand as persistant inspiration to his wit Mrs. Estella Young, his children, Maggie Juanita. Roy. Jiv and Mrs. Anna Marie Hooks, to his two sisters. Mes-darnes Annie Smith and Ruth Chester. three brothers. E. F. Jr . T. J and D B. Young to the host of relatives and friends who knew him and, above ail. to his father who was so responsible for the quality of his life.Perhaps no other words can describe the spirit of Bishop Young as well as those found in the manuscript of his autobiography, In my life is the likeness of several men and women who have tried to do something to help the race and community in which they live . . the persons may not be styled as reknown and outstanding leaders of the country, t h c y have, however, played some little part in helping to make the world a better place in which to live.’’Such was the life and spirit of Bishop Roy L. Young.
