The London Retail Merchant's Association voted Tuesday to hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 5 at 9:00 a.m. in Cowling Park. They will offer awards of both cash and merchandise to the hundreds of children expected to participate. According to information releas ed at the Tuesday meeting, more than 1,000 candy Easter Eggs will be placed in the park before the children are turned loose on the hunt. The area will be divided in to three groups so that toddlers, younger boys and girls and the older groups will not be running over each other. Each age group will be awarded cash prizes from $5.00 to 500 and merchandise prizes will be award ed according to the number of prizes donated by individual mer chants. The cash awards are being sponsored by the Retail Merchants Association. The candy Easter eggs are being purchased in bulk, and will be sanitarily wrapped with foil be fore they are hidden. Cubmaster Robert Mabe said his Cub Scouts in Pack 102 will handle all the wrapping as one of their public service projects. The rain date set for the egg hunt is Sunday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m., according to the agreement reached by the Retail Merchants Association members who attend ed the Tuesday meeting. In other activities aiscussed at the Tuesday meeting President Robert Mabe appointed a commit tee to meet with the Madison County Fair Board and discuss possible ways in which the mer chants can help toward a better 1958 Fair, Paul Alexander, Wen dell Steinmetz and Marie were named on the committee. Dr. M. J. Chakeres, representing the American Legion, Post 105, told the group of the planned Dis trict Convention scheduled for June 15 in London, which is ex pected to bring several hundred people here. He also sparked a discussion which brought about the appoint ment of a merchant’s committee to promote wider display of flags on the streets of London on Patri otic holidays. Hileman, Carter and Ballenger were named to talk with the merchants to see that more flags are on display during par ades, holidays and other patriotic occasions. The group also voted to donate a large platform to the City Park Commission if the commission will accept the platform for use in Cowling Park.
