tenuary at i\ew Westminster.Skating Seaeoa It OverIast Wednesday evening the proprietors of the Phoenix skating rink gave a hard tiroes carnival, and announced that that evening would be the last of the season, the ice beginning to get soft and watery at times, owing to the balmy climate enjoyed here. There were a number of races and other events. One was a matched race between Wm. Murray and Tommy Oxley for $50 a side, which Oxley won. In the snowshoe race were four heats, H. A. Munro coming out winner against A. Murray in the last heat. In the barrel jumping, Archie Murray was first, with Joe McClosh second, the jump being over six barrels. The judges were G. Kay, A. E. H. Clark, A. Murray and H. A. Munro.
