DISTRICT IVTEXAS STATE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Two Seminole High Students, Linda Martin and Paul Dabbs, had featured spots on the program of the District IV Texas State Teachers Convention in Snyder Friday. As Mr. and Miss Future Teacher of District IV, the Seminole students each delivered a highly-acclaimed brief speech to 3500 teachers at the morning general session in the Snyder Coliseum.Linda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Martin, 700 Ave. F, NW, is a junior, a member of the girl's debate team, and assistant drum major in the Indian Band. Paul, son of Mrs. Ward Christian, 313 Ave I, SW, is the editor of the school paper, the War Whoop, andhas won forensic honors in persuasive speaking;Paul and Linda were chosen as the district’s Mr. and Miss Future Teacher at the district meeting of all Future Teacher Clubs in November. The award is based on general scholarship, demonstrated interest in the teaching profession, service, and upon a speech on the teaching profession which each contestant must make at the district meeting. Although statistics were unavailable, it is believed that this is the first time in the history of the district that the two winners have come from the same high school. Mrs. Christine Nelson is sponsor of the Seminole Chapter of the Future Teachers.Dr. John McFarland, dean of the school of education of the University of Texas at El Paso, was the keynote speaker at the Snyder meeting. School was dismissed for Seminole teachers to attend the annual convention.
