Shurtleff Letters To Be Presented To Seven Of TeamBrighter Prospects Assured For 1936 Basketball Team With Four “S” Men ReturningCoach Fisher announces that seven letters will be awarded to members of the Pioneer basketball squad. The men who will be honored with the Shurtleff “S” are: Homer Abbott, guard; Andy Menzie, center; Charles McClintock, Pioneer captain; Lamont Thompson, center; Bob Sutton, guard; George Hale, guard; and Donald B *o-man, guard. The season's record for the Pioneers is rather disappointing when looking at figures, but there is something to look forward to. With only two letter men on the squad, Shurtleff undertook a tough schedule of 24 games, winning five and losing nineteen. The Pioneers reached their peak near the close of the season when they nearly upset two strong conference teams, Illinois Wesleyan and St. Viators, and defeated the Quincy College aggregation twice by decisive scores.Much brighter prospects for a winning team are assured next year, since Coach Fisher will have four lettermen, Hale, Thompson, Broman, and Sutton, returning. To this nucleus, Denton and Switzer, both second semester Freshmen, and Keith, who was out most of the season while recovering from an appendicitis operation, will add additional strength to the squad.
