GLOBE TROTTERS TAME BULLDOGS; CLASSIEST EXHIBITION EVER SEENDusky Basketballers Lead 26 to 20 at Half; Final Score Is 50-42Saperstein’s Harlem Globe Trotters, dusky basketeers from New York, gave the Dillon fans a sample of big time basketball when they toyed with the Normal Bulldogs and easily beat them, 50 to 42. The boys from Harlem put on one of th-e greatest and classiest exhibitions of basketball ever keen in Dillon.The game was witnessed by the largest crowd of the year, and all those who attended went home well satisfied, as the colored aggregation from the big town put on everything in the book. In the first half and whenever they needed a basket or two to stay out in front, they showed they could play serious basketball. But whenever they held from a Six to ten-point lead, they went into their song and dance to entertain the eager crowd with their funny antics. One of their pet specialties was passing the ball around a Normal player, and then when he was a trifle dizzy from looking around and about for the ball, one of the Harlemites would spin the ball on his head. Besides their funny antics they gave one of the greatest exhibitions of set shooting ever seen in Dillon. They hooped these set shots without putting any arch on the ball.Why colored athletes are sometimes called “shadows” soon became evident to the Bulldogs, as the Globe Trotters were just as elusive as a shadow, being a step or two ahead of a Normal player at all times.Inman Jackson, long rated as one of the best centers in basketball today, was the first man to take the tipoff from Milton Croaker this season, and without exerting himself a bit, he was probably the standout star of a team of stars. Courtney, probably the fastest player seen on a local court in some time, led the colored boys in the scorning by chalking up 16 markers. He was followed by Ford, fast little guard who scored 11 points.For the Bulldogs who were stopped cold for tbe first time this year and made to look like novices at times, Bernard (Lefty) McGinley was the boy who was hot. He scored 16 points for Normal. Tall Crooker was hot on his foul conversions and tallied 11 times for the Bulldogs.The Trotters who finished the game with only four men on the floor were on the short end of a 6 to 2 score early in the game. As they got warmed up they soon tied the score and then pulled away to a six or eight-point load which they held the remainder of the game. They made a basket everytime they needed one. The score was 40 to 28. 1The superiority of the Bulldogs over the Independents was very evi- : dent, the Bulldogs being out in front ; at all Stages of the game.
