The fire departmeent question con-tinues to a bone of much contention and discussion. It is a question that vitally concerns all the people and i should not be dismissed lightly. The | fire departmeent has not taken kindly to the action of the city council in the matter of reducing the salary of the chief and night driver and some of the more radical members have been rath- ( er pronounced in the expression oftheir opinions.^ *One thing is certain. We cannot afford to do anything that is going to lessen the efficiency of the fire department. We not only need, but we must have the protection, that comes with a vell organized and e fficient working fire department.
