News Director A standing ovation followed words spoken by Sheffield Township Firefighter Brian Alkire as he i “his gratitude for “knowing that firefighters from all over the country have stayed behind” him and supported him at his recovery. Delphi Tri-Township Fire at awards banquet, held at the V.F.W. in Delphi, Alkire stated that “life goes on after your burned.” Alkire suffered severe burns to his face, head, and hands, when a garage roof collapsed on top of him during a structure fire. Stressing the importance of ies ae gear for frefighters, he encouraged governing officials with the authority on budgets and financing to make sure firefighters have the best equipment. His presentation was followed by Delphi Tri-Township Fire Department volunteers, City and township officials honoring firefighters for years committed to serving their community. Awards were presented by Chief Bill Schock and First Assistant Chief John Patterson. Three firefighters, Bill Randle, Cliff Baldwin, and Bill Schock, received special recognition for over thirty years of service to the Department, as Delphi Mayor Sam Deiwert presented them with plaques and pledged to do what he “can to support the Department and make sure they had equipment that was safe.” Deiwert stated that the contributions of volunteer firefighters “makes Delphi and the three participating townships a safe place to live.” For serving over thirty years as volunteer firefighters for Delphi Tri-Township Fire Department, Firefighter Bill Randle, Chief Bill Schock, and Firefighter Cliff Baldwin, were honored at an award’s banquet. The Ladies Fire Auxiliary provides behind the scenes assistance to the firefighters with coffee, food, and moral support.
