Lincolnshire to welcome public fee golfers in '87By TOM TOZERLincolnshire country club will welcome public fee golfers on one of its two 18-hole golf courses starting April 15, when the club’s east course is redubbed Lincoln Oaks golf club.John Bannen, the club's general manager, said the 36-hole private club “will remain that way,” but will host public fee golfers, offering them a pro shop, a driving range and a new, 240-stall parking lot.Weekday public fees will be $12 for an 18-hole round, and $15 per round will be charged on weekends, Bannen said. Senior and twilight discount rates also will be offeredCARTS WILL BE available for $9 per round per person, and an assistant professional will be on hand to give lessons at the driving range.“Our future plans include the addition of a practice green,” he said.Bannen said the club, located at 390 East Richton road in Crete, will open its halfway house to serve sandwiches and beer to the public, but the clubhouse itself “will be off limits.”Club members will have to request tee times for play on the Lincoln Oaks course, he said. Lincolnshire’s west course will remain closed to public play.“WE'VE BLOCKED out Tuesdaymornings until 11:30 a.m. for ladies, and we have blocks of time in the mornings set aside for members on Saturday and Sunday,” Bannen said.The club expects to reap benefits from the move, both in financial terms and in new memberships.“We certainly hope to generate more members from this ... all they have to do is ask for an application and one will be forthcoming, Bannen saidThere were 7,000 rounds of golf played on the east course last year, while the average private course handles between 25,000 and 30,000 rounds per year.BANNEN SAID the club could get as many as 40,000 players through the Lincoln Oaks first tee in the 1987 season.A strict conduct code and dress code will be enforced by rangers and tee starters on the Lincoln Oaks layout.“Were not going to let it get rowdy,” Bannen said“We probably will have to add one person to the maintenance staff But we have a vigorous maintenance schedule now,” Bannen said.“WE HAVE A facility to offer the public that takes a backseat to none(Please turn to Page E-J)
