Forrest Chamber names Bill Masters, PresidentThere were 38 persons attending a breakfast meeting held Saturday, March 6, at the Cross Hoads to organize a Forrest Chamber of Commerce.The first meeting held in recent weeks was attended by nine persons; 25 attended a Feb. 28 meeting. Five persons volunteered to serve on a steering committee at the Feb. 28 meeting consisting of Jerry Honegger, Ray Arnett, Steve Metz, Jamie Rieger and Kenneth Fellers. This committee was to work on plans to determine if such an organization was feasible or to instead organize a Business Association.This committee selected another five members to the board and included Bill Masters, Jerry' Bachtold, Michael Hostetler, Donald Fortna and Steve Rieger.At an organizational meeting of the board Bill Masters was named president; Jamie Rieger, vice president and Donald Fortna, secretary-oreasurer. ine group attending the breakfast meeting approved the board and officers.A base membership rate was set at $30. This would include the cost of the breakfast and operating capital for postage and letter heads etc.Masters told the group the purpose of the organization was to make our own community a better place to live.There wiil be projects and goals for the organization to be determined at a later meetings. A bicentennial committee was named to work with the group now planning the June 19 becentennial celebration in Forrest. Children in these age groups who have attained their third birthdate by the screening date will be screened on March 18 between the hours of 9 and 11 in the morning and 12:30 and 3:00 in the afternoon.This year the screening will be held in the education wing of the Methodist church across the street from the high school.
