Man From Toledo Shot to Death at Napoleon---Police Hold Chicago Man. Canton, Ohio, March 12, (INS).—Two men were under arrest here charged with suspicion in connection with an alleged attempt to extort $4,000 from Mrs. Theane W. Case, widow of the late Frank E. Case, Canton indus trialist. According to police, one of the sus pects, L. B. Chappell, of Shawnee town, Illinois, admitted his part in the extortion plot. He and Paul Merritt were arrested when they picked up a fake package placed at a telephone pole in the suburban district. Police said Chappell revealed he came here to attempt to extort funds from H. H. Timken, prominent indus trialist. Toledo, Ohio, March 12. (INS).— Mysterious advertisements in Toledo newspapers, thought at first to be attempts made by John Dillinger to make contact with fellow gangsters, were found to be only the work of press agents promoting a “mystery act” in local theaters. Appearance of the two advertise ments, phrased in the jargon of the underworld, threw the city into an excitement for fear the escaped desperado was making Toledo a rendezvous and started department of justice agents upon a prompt in quiry. Both advertisements used the word “peduts,” “thought” to have~mcent “bullets,” and one said: “Spot posi tion. Am desperate.” Canton, Ohio, March 12. (INS).—Mrs. Edith Christman, alleged slayer of her estranged husband, Roy Christ man, and of his sister, Miss Iva Christman on New Year's Day at their Massillon home, pleaded guilty to second degree murder here and was immediately sentenced to life imprisonment. Common Pleas Judge Henry W. Harter, Jr., committed her to the State Reformatory for Women at Marysville, Napoleon, Ohio, March 12. (INS).— Pat Donley, aged 50, of Toledo, was shot through the head and instantly killed today near here. John Crowley, aged 33, of Chicago, was taken into custody in connec tion with the slaying and lodged in the Henry county jail here. Both of the men were wayfarers, authorities said.
