Modi NEEDED THING....)»Many of Iowa: Supposedly *‘I)ry Ccunties Are “Wet” in Fact.Des Moines, Iov*a.~—Representative Frank Shankihnd’s statement that' many of Iowa’s supposedly * dry” counties are not so dry as outriders imagine is verb'ivd in the newspaper reports. From the newspapers of one day comes the following; \ A man was a2Tested'in Marshalltown for bootlegging and fined ,$100; three barrels of bfeer and, a large quantity of whisky were confiscated' at. Ottumwa; a man mined Dowden, charged with bootlegging, was, brought before W. C. McArthur, state commissioner; in Dows a petition enjoining a business man from selling intoxicating liquors was fifed; in Cass county a newspaper says that all kinds of liquor is being sold; in Iowa City a rooming house was raided and large quantities of liquor secured; in Woilman a man was arrested for selling liquor and fined $100; in Waterloo bootlegging is 'rampant since the sajooss were closed; in Stanhope a bootlegger was arrest,ed; in Mason City a woman was arrested and large quantities of liquor confiscated. When it is considered that these violations were reported in practically one day’s time, some little idea of the liquor that is being, sold over the state can be secured. It is safe to say where one is arrested, tea bootleggers go free.
