Hercules was born in Butler county, Ohio, September 17, 1823, and died at his home, 302 Wayne avenue, Greenville, 0., February 8, 1908, aged 84 years, 4 months and 21 days.He was married to Permelia Sidel February 4, 1849; to this union were born 9 children—7 daughters and 2 sons. Of these children but one is living, Mr. F. P. Hercules.Mr. and Mrs. Hercules came to Darke county in 1852 and located near Rossburg, where*they lived until about three years ago, when they moved to their present home in Greenville, 0. He united with the U. B. church at Rossburg,0., about 1873, and about a year ago he transferred his membership to the U. B. church at Greenville, 0.When the Civil war came and the country needed men he volunteered to serve his country. He enlisted September 10, 1862, in Company E, 40th Regt. 0. V.1.; re-enlisted in the 51st Regt 0. V. I., and served four years and three months. He was a member of Jobes Post. G. A. R. of this city.
