DEBATES G-BOTH DEBATING CLUBS MEET THIS WEEK. o-Boys Discuss Compulsory Hilitary Service; Girls as to Whether a DShould Bar Pupil from Athletics.—o —The Boys’ Debating Club held its regular meeting in Room 9 Monday afternoon. Before calling for the debate two new members were presented for membership, and the President, Paul Edwards, having resigned, another was elected. Edmund Eitel: was chosen. The question debated at this meeting was: Should military service be made compulsory in the United States. Charles Lewis and Raymond Spruance held forth for the affirmative. Paul Edwards and Howard Foulke for the negative.Mr. Lewis attempted in his arguments to show that compulsory military service would be bene tic ial both to the individuals and to the nation; everyone would have a personal interest in the government: social distinctions would be erased by placing all on the same level; the health of the individual would be benelited, the nation would have a large and competent standing army.
