Rageange Standard, Home Interests. The 44th boys left for Kendallvillle again yesterday morning. Sam Bean’s company of 69 mechanics left for Chattanooga last Wednesday. ‘Tax-payers will bear in mind that the time for paying taxes without subjecting themselves to a penalty, closes on the 19th last. A public sale will take place at the residence of Elisha Hudson, in Lima township, on Wednesday March 16th, at TO o'clock A. M., consisting of farming utensils, stock and grain. ‘The ‘social hop,” on Tuesday even ing last, given in honor of the Chattanoo ga boys, was the most spirited affair of the season. The boys “danced all night until broad-day light,” and left for Dixie in the morning. ‘The Commissioners have been in session during the week. Their ‘business has been confined princi pally to settling county affairs. It was Peter Brough, of col, 88th regiment, who was severely wounded at the battle of Tunnel Hill, and not Peter B. Lowe, as telegraphed. James Hoagland and James Preston have our thanks for their promptness in answering to our call for a few bushels of potatoes.— Such men never fail to gain the good will of the printer. Capt. Wildman, of 88th Ind. Vols., co. G wants sixty men to go back with his veterans to finish up the job. Headquar ters at Wolcottville. Bounty given as heretofore. Lee White, of Sturgis, wishes to inform the public hereabout, that he will go to New York next Monday and when he returns he expects to sell them more, better, and cheaper goods than heretofore. As we go to press we learn that the building occupied by R. J. Morrison Co’s hardware store and the post-office, at Lima, were destroyed by fire last Thurs day night, together with all their contents. No particulars given. Today we publish Gov. Mor eton’s speech in full. Every man who feel interested in the affairs of our State should give it a fair and ‘candid perusal. At a meeting held in Hubbard's Hall ‘on Tuesday evening, March 1st, for the ‘purpose of organizing a Soldiers’ Aid So ciety, the following officers were appoint ed: Mrs. Askey, President; Mrs. Kra mar, Vice President; M. J. Menelaus, Secretary; Mrs. Hubbard, Treasurer. By common consent those present were appointed a soliciting committee to ob tain fruit, pickles and other necessaries for the soldiers. M. J. Is there not some law by which the vaga bond, who would thus seek to contamnate and destroy the home of her who has giv en her natural protector to the wars, can be brought to justice and be made to suf fer the severest penalty. Mirelle’s New General Avias.—Mr. Meek, agent for this splendid and valua ble work, is now in this place, canoeing the county, and we learn meets with good encouragement. We have examined the work, and consider it the best we have yet seen. It is neatly bound in folio form, rendering it convenient, neat and durable, on a much larger scale than the Washing ton War Map. It contains large and splendid plots of all the principal cities in the United States. It needs to been seen to be appreciated. Prof. Douglas, Super intendent of the Columbia City High School, and Mr. Wilson, School Exami ner of Whitley county, unite in the fol lowing commendation : «« Having examined Mitchell's New Ge neral Atlas, we unhesitatingly pronounce it one of the best yet published, and well worth the price.’ Vic shall refer to this matter again. In the meantime those who have the oppor tunity should examine it for themselves. Mr. Meek is capable and willing to set forth the merits of the work to the com prehension of all. Besides, Mr. Meek is a gentleman to whom we are all under obligations for the sacrifice he has made for his country.
