—Staff pboioi THE WINNER — Loretta Glickman, who scored an upset victory over Pasadena City Director Henry Wilfong Jr. Tuesday, is studying city business and also plans to give birth to her second child in April.Loretta Glickman— anatomy of an upsetBy MARY HAYES.Special CorrespondentLoretta Glickman, who ousted an incumbent Pasadena councilman from his seat Tuesday is going to be a bit busier than most freshman politicians.Not only is she boning up on city business before taking her seat, but she will give birth to her second child some time between the middle and end of April.Mrs. Glickman’s name will appear unopposed on the April 19 general election ballot, and she is assured of assuming her seat May 2 unless a write-in candidate should surface and defeat her.Mrs. Glickman, who has a 15-month-old son, Jacob, ousted incumbent Henry Wilfong Jr. from the District 3 seat In the primary election to become the first black woman and the second woman elected to the Pasadena Board of City Directors.She fought a low-key but intensive campaign that found her walking precincts, attending meetings and working on election strategies until long after midnight for three months.Both she and her campaign manager. Pat Bond, admitted that Itwould have been harder for a candidate holding a full-time job to run such a demanding campaign.And both were elated that two women with small children at home (Mrs. Bond's are 14,6 and 1 year old) were able to organize a full-scale successful effort against an established incumbent.“No one believed Wilfong could be beaten/’ said Mrs. Bond. “Leaders in the community were patronizing, sarcastically saying ‘This woman thinks she can topple Henry.’ Henry thought himself he couldn't be beaten.”Mrs. Glickman says her Eirst priority is to set up neighborhood organizations of all the people in the district who were contacted during the pre-election drive.“There's a lot of apathy and negativism about politicians/’ she said of her district, which is bounded by El Molino and Fair Oaks avenues, Colorado Boulevard and the city’s northern limits.“Probably the hardest job before me is getting the trust of people sothat they’ll work side by side with Tun to back page, thli section
