Seventeen young people from Will county recently met federal requirements for tractor safety certification by taking a tractor safety course here, according to David Whitson, Extension adviser in agriculture. The course is important for any young people, between 14 and 15 years of age, who expect to operate tractors off the home farm, for hire. It is also important to the farmers who employ them. Without the certification given on satisfactory completion of the course, it is illegal for such young people to operate tractors off their parents’ farms and also for far mers to hire them. The young people who took the course, passed it and received certifications include James Flynn and Dean Jacobson of Beecher, Tony Scaramelli of Braceville, Joe Leggero of Elwood, Bob Horman of Frankfort, Bob Eich, Sue and George Offerman and Dan Beutel of Joliet, Mark Fleer and Tom Shinn of Lockport, Jerry Fellows of Manhattan, Rick Newton of Mokena, Ken Krabbe of Monee, David Martin of New Lenox, Ron Welsh of Plainfield and Tony Kitchell of Wilmington.
