BY BOBBY TEMPLETON Eagle Staff Writer An old fashion western style free-for-all between two Bryan policemen and six Mexican males resulted Sunday from a routine check on a violator. The incident involving Bryan Police Officers Dan Ruch and C. R. Pauling began when Pauling was checking out a violation in the 700 block of Boulevard St. in Bryan at 6:53 p.m. Sunday. Pauling was the first of four officers who ultimately became involved in the oc currence which ended in both Pauling and Ruch receiving injuries. The violation was committed by Romaldo Rodriguez Dejesus, 21, when he attempted to elude Pauling after a chase began. Dejesus sped around several corners sideways during the chase which ended when Dejesus stopped his vehicle in the driveway of a house at 703 Boulevard St. Pauling asked the subject for his drivers license, but Dejesus just walked into the house without responding. Pauling then entered the reard of the house where six Mexican males were. The Mexicans then claimed Pauling had no right in the yard and shouted for him to leave. The also insulted him with name calling Pauling then called for assistance from other police. Officer Ruch arrived and the western square off began. As both officers approached the fence near the house, three of the Mexicans jumped on Ruch and the rest assaulted Pauling. Pauling was hit and kicked in the face, head and the body and Ruch was hit in the body and cut on the lip. Pauling was treated at the Bryan Hospital. After this initial fight, Officers Joe Alvarado and Stephen Salathiel arrived, to the rescue their comrades. As the help arrived, the officers were still wrestling with one of the Mexicans, Salvador Dejesus, 50. During the scuffle, Salvador had pulled a 44 magnum pistol from Ruch's holster. He pointed the gun at the officers, at which point Pauling pulled his gun out and tried to per suade Salvador to drop it. He didn’t and Salvador Rodriguez Dejesus, 26, grabbed the gun away. At this point the whole family ran into the house with the two Salvadors running out the back of the house. The officers first tried to enter the front of the house but were blocked by Virginia Cruz of 606 Walnut St. Then they went through the back door and found the family in the living room. Again the officers were told they had no right in the house. The officers then recognized two of the family as persons who assaulted Pauling and Ruch. They were Jose Rodriguez, 23, and Javier Dejesus 19. Jose and Javier were arrested and charged with deadly assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. The Dejesus’ are still in the Brazos County Jail as of this morning. Romaldo Dejesus was later captured and is in jail as of this morning also.
